Over the course of senior year I have grown in ways I thought I would not have been able to without this capstone class. Through this capstone project I have been able to learn how the adult world is and how hard it can be. Tutoring 6 graters has been really hard for me because I am usually good with people that are older than me, but not as good with people that are younger than me. Through this process I have been able to grow multiple of my life skills that I will need in the adult world. In the past 8 months I have been able to see myself grow while working with the 6th graders. Early in this project I realized that it is going to be one of the hardest things I do in my high school career. At the beginning, I was not sure how it would go. As I did more and more sessions I started to get more comfortable and made the students I was helping more comfortable with me. I know what I was doing with the math, but not with helping the students understand their math problems. After a little bit I was able to learn what worked with some students and what did not work with them. Around November, I was able to really start feeling good about what I was doing with the 6th graders. I have had to overcome a lot of problems this year, like this being the first time I tutored anyone in math and the problems within the middle school. For my first time doing something like this I think I have done a good job. Working and helping people is something that I love to do And I am very happy I had the chance to do something like this. The problems in the middle like a lot of the students' first time being back in a classroom and with the drugs in the school with the 7th graders. A lot of the students I helped told me that they were not in school last year. So with that I knew that it was going to be a big problem because the students did not know how to act and knew what to do. With the problems with the 7th graders and the drugs, I was really scared like everyone else. After that happened I did not tutor the 7 th graders because they were all over the place and were grieving. After that and the midterms I really did not get back into tutoring the 7th graders and that is when I really slowed down with them and eventually I stopped tutoring them. I am proud of what I have been able to do with my capstone. I have been able to help students in middle school that would not have the chance to get help. The students in the middle school this year need the help so I am happy that I am able to help some of them within math. Working with the students and seeing them learn what they need and the way they do it is the best part of me. For my first time doing something like this I think I have done a good job. Working and helping people is something that I love to do And I am very happy I had the chance to do something like this. I feel I have been impacted by my capstone. My capstone has helped me by opening me up to students and people that are younger than me. For my capstone I have been able to put in more than 16 hours at this point. I feel I am going to continue tutoring until the end of the year.
